Inspire – High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Heathcote High School begins connecting with local HPGE students from primary school age with a series of introductory and extension activities. If your student currently attends; Engadine West Public School, Heathcote Public School, Heathcote East Public School, Helensburgh Public School or Waterfall Public School, the chances are, they have already begun connecting with our highly qualified and specialist teachers. Each Heathcote High School teacher has been trained to recognise HPGE skill in our students.

Domains of potential

The domains of potential describe the four broad categories of natural abilities found in Françoys Gagné's adapted model of Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talent DMGT 2.0 (2009). These definitions apply to all students, including high potential and gifted students.

The domains of potential may not be mutually exclusive and are highly influenced by one another.

  • Creative domain – refers to natural abilities in imagination, invention and originality.
  • Intellectual domain – refers to natural abilities in processing, understanding, reasoning, and the transfer of learning.
  • Physical domain – refers to natural abilities in muscular movement and motor control.
  • Social-emotional – refers to natural abilities in self-management and relating to and interacting with others.

Heathcote High School Enrichment Program

Our Enrichment program caters for high potential and gifted students from our Year 6 students in our primary partner schools. This program also offers the opportunity for these students to connect with the similar minded people prior to Day 1 of Year 7 the following year.

Held in Term 2, the philosophy behind the courses offered is to provide enrichment activities with a focus on the use of critical thinking skills and problem-solving based learning. Activities will complement the Stage 3 curriculum with the aim of extending and deepening students' knowledge and understanding.

The Enrichment Programs offers 5 week courses which extend and deepen students' knowledge and understanding of the topic offered in each course. This program is a collaborative local public schools initiative.

If you would like your Year 6 child to be included in this program next year, please contact us.
