Starting Year 7 with us
Beginning high school can be a daunting process and we believe in providing a strong transition process that assists our future students and community. Parents and future students are invited to engage in a number of events and activities to help familiarise this path and create meaningful connections with our school.
If you are only just starting your journey, take a look at our Newletters and Social Media page to get an understanding of our day to day activities. We post regularly with a focus on our students and their interests and classwork. We attempt to emulate the high levels of primary school connectivity with the regularity of our posts.
We begin our connection journey with future students early with the following activities;
- One-on-one tours - contact us now to book your tour
- Year 4 "High School for a Day" - practical subject taster classes with skilled teachers in our specialist spaces
- Year 5 "High School for a Day" - practical subject taster classes with skilled teachers in our specialist spaces
- Inhouse workshops - Our teachers and student alumni head back to our primary partner schools to lead workshops on a range of activities such as; debating, sports carnivals and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community days. Our students love to visit their old primary schools and help out whenever their curriculum allows.
- Year 6 Primary School visits - A member of our Senior Executive and the Year 7 Advisor for the coming year meet each future student and their teacher for an academic and wellbeing handover to assist with the care of your child.
- Year 6 "Enrichment Day" - a series of 5 Wednesdays for students working towards our streamed HPGE Year 7 class. Students work with different faculties of the school with the aim to extend their knowledge and skills.
- Orientation Days - meet your buddy and get to know us, our spaces and your peers!
- Open Night - focused on introducing future families to Heathcote High School and our teachers and facilities. The Senior Executive present and respond to parent questions. This night is one of our favourites where we showcase our
- Term 1 Year 7 Camp - this is a brilliant opportunity for your child to have a great time getting to know their peers Meet the Teacher Evening - Targeted to parents of Year 7 students who would like to put some faces to the names. We love speaking about our classes and this is a great, informal chance to get to know the important people in our new student's lives.
- Early reporting in Term 1 to gauge the progress of your child early and assist with any issues
As always, siblings and young family members are always welcome to attend their elder sibling's; open days, subject selection nights, meet the teacher evening, parent teacher interviews, MADD (music, art, dance and drama performance) Night, school production performances and Presentation Day. You are welcome to ask questions about the future of the school and your child's opportunities with us!
