Amplify Student Leadership Conference
Tuesday 8thOctober, 2013
The Amplify Conference was organized by Sutherland Shire Council with assistance from Amnesty International. Students in Years 8 and 9 from all Sutherland Shire Schools were invited to participate. Students who attended from Heathcote High were Sean Veitch, Sage Kimber, Liam Terry, Bronte Smith.
The focus of the day was to empower youth to make a difference. Students participated in a number of activities and workshops focusing on learning to lead. The workshops and sessions were facilitated by members of the Sutherland Shire Youth Council. Community groups including UNICEF, St Vincents de Paul Society, Hotrock, Global Poverty Project, Cancer Council of Australia, Anti- Slavery Australia, Space 44, I am a Boat Person, Headspace supported the conference.
The students were fabulous ambassadors for our school and they came away with greater insight into the ways youth can be involved in having a voice and the ways they can go about empowering others too. A quote from the day.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has" ( Margaret Mead)
