Subject Selection Information

At Heathcote High, we pride ourselves on the great variety of subjects open to our students.

In Year 10, students are given the opportunity to select the subjects that they will study throughout stage 6 (Years 11 & 12). The students must select 12 units in the Preliminary courses.

As part of the Year 11 Subject Selection process, we provide a teacher mentor for each student. The students will meet with their mentor to obtain advice and information on the subject selection process. This helps ensure that students are choosing a pattern of study that satisfies the requierments of NESA.

Students must consider if they wish to obtain an ATAR to enable them to go to University. This does impact on the courses they can select.

All students are encouraged to make subject choices based on two main criteria - interest and ability. That is, students should choose subjects that they are interested in and those that match their skills. You will be more likely to be motivated to learn and succeed in the HSC.
